A desire to create healthy office environments has won an Albany company a major sustainability award at the 2011 Westpac Auckland North Business Awards.
MW Cleaning Services claimed the Massey University Excellence in Sustainability Award after impressing judges with its clear commitment and passion for sustainability. The judges also applauded the company’s significant increase in revenue over the last two years and its support of charitable and social groups.
With more than 25 teams of cleaners, MW Cleaning provides services to over 200 businesses Auckland wide and uses 100 per cent biodegradable cleaning products and cleaning systems to eliminate volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from clients’ workplaces.
“VOCs are responsible for the alarming increase in asthma and allergies in the work place, so by cleaning for health as well as hygiene and appearance, our cleaning products and processes effectively help maintain employee productivity as well,” says Director Bob Quaid.
Based in Albany, in 2010 the family-owned business became the first services company in New Zealand to be awarded an Environmental Choice New Zealand (ECNZ) Licence and the right to use the Environmental Choice green planet-and-tick symbol.
“A number of cleaning companies claim to be green but there’s nothing substantial behind it. The ECNZ licence took considerable work to achieve and is a mark of our commitment to creating healthy work environments free of toxins and chemicals, and which are eco-friendly,” says Mr Quaid.
Manager Business Development – North for Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development, Ngaio Merrick, congratulates MW Cleaning on their award.
“Sustainability and environmental concerns are becoming increasingly important within the business community. MW Cleaning is ensuring its business compliments these concerns as well as provides a valuable service,” says Ms Merrick.
In 2010 MW Cleaning also won ECNZ’s Innovator of the Year award for its work in the cleaning services industry.
