Richard Goldsmith and team mates from Albany Senior High School participate in the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme E-Day
|
Students’ business ideas were streaming faster than high-speed broadband at the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) e-day launch yesterday. Hosted by Massey University, the e-day kicked off the YES year which, with the calibre and creativity displayed by Year 12 and 13 students, promises to be exciting, enthralling and…enterprising!
E-day serves to introduce the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme requirements to the students, and inspire creativity and innovation in the entrepreneurs of tomorrow. More than 370 students from 13 secondary schools around the North Shore and Rodney spent the day brainstorming ideas for their fledgling companies, with the help of high-profile local business experts and speakers.
YES is a nationwide scheme which teaches high school students the principles of commerce by establishing and running a business within the school curriculum.
Enterprise North Shore hosts YES locally, and Regional Coordinator Lisa Ford says: “The North Shore won 2 national awards in 2008; with flecks of brilliance amongst the participants at e-day this year, 2009 is looking to be a resounding YES success.”
“Some of the student ideas were absolutely breathtaking; the enterprising and innovative future of the North Shore looks extremely secure” she says.
The 30 business professionals, who provide a “speed coaching” service to the students in the afternoon of e-day were impressed with the students and their and inherent vision for the future. “There is a strong sense of social obligation mixed with some truly inspirational business talent evident in the 2009 students” says Garth Partridge of Icon Business Solutions.
The regional winner of YES will be announced on 15th October at a Regional Awards ceremony at North Harbour Stadium.
