Opening Doors Auckland Limited was named as the winner of the 2009 Benefitz Best New Startup Business Award at the Westpac Enterprise North Shore Business Excellence Awards.

Supplying doors and hardware to the building industry since April 2007, Opening Doors provides the personal touch by meeting onsite with builders and home owners, completing site measures and organising all their needs like a one-stop-door shop. This year the company opened a showroom in Glenfield.

Judges were enthused by the dynamic business that alleviates frustration and saves time for builders. They were impressed by the extra touches to build excellent relationships with both builders and home owners.

“We wanted to make life easier for builders, developers and building merchants by sourcing the correct products for the correct job,” says owner Col Meffan, “it saves their time by not having to go to site, not having to re-quote, not having to deal with the crossing of the ‘t’s and dotting of the ‘i’s – all at the same time as getting expertise on that particular product.”

“It’s fantastic to see a startup business such as Opening Doors,” says Terry Hoskins chief executive of Enterprise North Shore. “Building a business from scratch can be challenging, particularly in the current climate, so it is heartening to see the success of companies like Opening Doors. We congratulated them for their resilience, determination and innovation.”
