Ingram Micro takes top honour
28 August 2009
North Shore technology company, Ingram Micro New Zealand Limited, walked away with supreme honours at the Westpac Enterprise North Shore Business Excellence Awards at North Harbour Stadium.
It was a big night for the Albany-based company which also won the Smales Farm Excellence in Sustainability and the Smith & Davies Employer of Choice Awards on their way to claim the prestigious overall Westpac Supreme Business Excellence Award for 2009.
Close to 600 people attended the annual awards, now in its 12th year, to recognise business excellence in North Shore City with 14 awards bestowed throughout the evening.
Ingram Micro’s excellent business ethos convinced and inspired the judging panel with their outstanding commitment to sustainability, employment practices and health and safety.
“We were particularly impressed with Ingram Micro’s environmental consideration in their EcoBuilding; their immense employee support systems and their strong ‘give back’ ethic to society,” says Matthew Bellingham, convenor of judges.
Ingram Micro New Zealand is a locally managed subsidiary of Ingram Micro Global, the world's largest wholesale provider of technology products and services. The firm carries a broad range of technology products including system, networking, component, peripheral, software and storage products.
Ingram Micro ventured into the New Zealand Market in 1997 and eight years later acquired Tech Pacific, a large IT distribution company that had been located on the North Shore since 1986. Last year the company relocated its head office to new purpose built premises in Apollo Drive which now houses over 200 employees, with a further 80 based at a warehousing facility in Wiri, South Auckland. The company also has a sales office in Wellington and a sales office and small warehousing facility in Christchurch.
“For over 20 years Ingram Micro New Zealand has called the North Shore home,” says Gary Bigwood, Managing Director. “The majority of our employees live here, our staff functions and social club events are held here and our international visitors always stay on the Shore. So in 2008, when looking for a new location to house our continually growing workforce, it was an easy decision to remain on the North Shore.”
“As a distributor we are the link between resellers and vendors,” continues Bigwood. “We add value to our resellers by enrolling the expertise and support of our vendors; enabling our resellers to take advantage of the relationships that we have long established here in New Zealand and overseas. Additionally, our ability to leverage Ingram Micro’s global infrastructure provides us with world class logistics, information systems, financial strength, product expertise, an ever increasing line of products and specialised support.”
In congratulating Ingram Micro and all the category winners, Ian Blair general manager of business banking for Westpac New Zealand said the standard of entrants in 2009 surpassed all previous expectations.
“With each passing year the quality of businesses striving to achieve recognition in the Awards increases, illustrating the volume of business talent housed on the North Shore. Westpac is proud to be a joint primary sponsor of the Awards for the 12th year, and this sponsorship has become an important aspect of our support for business in the City.”
Enterprise North Shore chief executive Terry Hoskins says that Ingram Micro epitomises the core principles of the Westpac Enterprise North Shore Business Excellence Awards. “To win one category is a marvellous achievement, but to take out two and the supreme title, as Ingram Micro has, is testament to the company’s impressive qualities.”
