People on the North Shore are passionate about their City. Our excellent quality-of-life, beautiful environment and our rich culture and heritage are inextricably linked to this passion, and a prosperous, thriving economy forms the backbone of these intrinsic indicators of satisfaction. Enterprise North Shore exists solely to develop the economy of North Shore City; forging pathways to preserve our precious environment with economic buoyancy, vibrancy and community wealth.
One such pathway is the Targeted Business Attraction Programme (TBAP). More than 26,000 mostly smaller enterprises currently flourish on the North Shore. Due to the wider and deeper scope of operation, larger enterprises can deliver greater wealth creation and employment opportunities for our community. TBAP seeks to attract, grow and retain more that do so.
The North Shore is a prime area in which to live, work, learn and play – yet approximately 38% of the working population (2006 census figures) still leave the city for work each day. TBAP aims to increase the opportunities for North Shore people to work on the Shore and add more value for our local community.
TBAP focuses on attracting and growing targeted industries (as identified in the City’s Economic Development Strategy) including high tech; education; professional services; health, creative industries and sport by promoting the overlooked assets of the attractive enterprise climate offered on the North Shore. In addition to our beautiful beaches, parks and shops, North Shore City has proven itself as an environment conducive to enterprise with excellent schools, an abundance of highly-skilled workers, excellent transport infrastructure and good broadband availability, as well as a plethora of other complimentary local enterprises.
Enterprise North Shore has developed a pipeline of enterprises looking to relocate. Of utmost importance is the availability of ongoing support for these enterprises post-relocation. Enterprise North Shore demonstrates commitment to provision of such support with valuable services during the investment process. Quality of place is vital, but ongoing support and assistance with establishment and implementation of investment plans is top of the list of investment attractors.
TBAP facilitates ease of compliance with the many and varied local, regional, and central government regulatory and other issues enterprises must address in order to return benefits to our community. Intermediary services are then followed up with access to ENS services and the pursuit of excellence for accelerated enterprise improvement, ensuring the entire investment, relocation, and settling process is smooth.
As at December 2008, TBAP has proven successful attracting se enterprises, adding more than 30 million dollars of added value through enterprise investment, and creating 157 full-time equivalent employment roles. These enterprises have potential to grow, increase employment, add value and act as exemplars to attract additional enterprises improving the Shore’s living standards.
North Shore City Council has recognised the crucial role North Shore City’s economy plays in the wellbeing of our people, particularly during times of economic hardship. ENS encourages North Shore City Council to continue its support for TBAP and ENS in enhancing North Shore City’s appeal as a place to live, work, learn and play.
