BUSINESS SUPPORT

Magnanimous Mentors

The Enterprise North Shore Business Mentors Christmas Celebration event was well attended by North Shore business people and mentors alike, in a celebration of the altruistic successes of Business Mentors in our community over the last year. The event saw five Mentors in particular honoured with special achievements, these were:

Most Reports Submitted: Lyn Taylor

Export Mentor of The Year: Andrew Burrows

Most Clients Mentored: Laurie Conder

Rodney District Mentor Of The Year: Gary Carter

The theme for the evening - Committed Optimists - was appropriate as Business Mentors have strived to instill optimism within their clients this year whilst navigating the obstacles of the business environment. Committed Optimism “embodies Enterprise North Shore’s outlook on the attitudes and behaviour everyone needs to see our community through these tight economic times” says Terry Hoskins (CEO of Enterprise North Shore) who ensured each attendee was adorned with a Committed Optimist badge.

Facilitated by ENS, Over 250 Business Mentors donate their time and expertise to North Shore businesses. These women and men are committed to assisting businesses overcome their individual obstacles, helping our economy to prosper.

Mentoring is not a thankless task, often providing intrinsic rewards by means of witnessing a business flourish under the Mentors’ counsel. The task is, however, limited to its intrinsic value. Being unpaid, business mentoring is performed for reasons of altruism and public philanthropy. Most rewarding of all: successful businesses are always appreciative of assistance they receive.

Enterprise North Shore’s Mentor Coordinator, Lisa Ford, says “typically, kiwi businesses are entrepreneurial in nature so the additional motivation and direction provided by a Business Mentor – particularly during times of economic uncertainty – can lend a hand in forging a pathway to success”.

Many Mentors join the program after successful careers with the view of contributing their skills and experience to the development of other businesses and their community.
