Working with Secondary Schools

Enterprise North Shore is an advocate of programmes that encourage the early development of work-related and enterprenuerial skills among North Shore's students.

Fostering of the vision, ambition and career decision making of the City's future enterpreneurs and skilled employees is a key part of long-term sustainable economic development policy.

Enterprise North Shore participates in a number of excellent school-based programmes delivered by North Shore's secondary schools, including the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme, Gateway and Education for Enterprise.

Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme – YES
YES_Small_colour_150_x_117.jpgThe Young Enterprise Scheme, a school-based business programme, runs internationally and in New Zealand secondary schools at years 12/13.  It fosters tomorrow’s entrepreneurs, giving them the opportunity to form a company, create a business plan, and produce goods or services to sell.

Enterprise North Shore, the economic development agency for the North Shore, believes a YES experience will foster the establishment of future businesses within North Shore City.  ‘A key part of economic development is to foster tomorrow’s entrepreneurs’.

Students gain practical work knowledge with local businesses which will make learning relevant and ensure that our young people have a smooth transistion from school to work.

Enterprise North Shore supports the Gateway Programme by hosting the Gateway Representative for the North Shore region on our premises and assisting with business contacts. Gateway is one programme in North Shore City addressing the employment skills needs of local businesses.

Enterprise Culture and Skills Activities (ECSA) is a strategy developed by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) to build a culture of business and enterprise in New Zealand.  Funding partners for the programme are NZTE, the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Tindall Foundation.

Successful ECSA programmes involve promoting attitudes, values and skills that support entrepreneurial activity and business success primarily through the concept of Education for Enterprise (E4E).

E4E_Logo_1.jpgEducation for Enterprise (E4E) engages students at all levels and curriculum areas in order to ensure their learning Is relevant and that they are developing as enterprising individuals.  It is not a separate subject, nor is it about setting up a business.

Enterprise North Shore is facilitating the E4E programme in North Shore City, providing support and guidance for the four schools and their students taking part in our cluster.
