Joint Foundation Initiative

Joint Foundation Initiative

Overview: The Joint Foundation Initiative (JFI) is a North Shore collaborative initiative designed to link supplies of 'foundation-level' courses with one another. It is not designed to detract from current practice within any one organisation, but rather to facilitate a better awareness of available resources for jobseekers, business and community within the North Shore region.

Vision: To provide for all levels of foundational skill, thereby better enabling candidate placement in the local labour force, and identifying 'shortages' in the Shore provision of foundation skill-sets.

Presently Identified Foundation Skill-Sets:

ESOL Literacy / Numeracy
'Trade-level' english skills 'Academic-level' english skills
Study skills (vocational / trade) Study skills (academic)
Cultural skills 'kiwi-ana' for migrants Life-skills
Work ethics Basic ICT skills
CV writing and preparation skills Interview technique skills

'Expressions of Interest'

At present, an "Expression of Interest" has been gathered from various sources and parties on the North Shore. The organisations that have expressed such an interest thus far, are listed below. If you would like to know more about this process, or be included in this initiative, please contact Aaron Smith.

Career Services Rapuara LS Recruit

Next Steps:

  • From May 2008, a 'Request for Proposal' will be sent to all interested parties, requesting that previous 'Expressions of Interest' be provided. This will simply entail interested organisations to better articulate their potential contribution to the scheme.
  • From this, a committee will be formed, to better articulate 'foundational skill shortages and needs' no the Shore
  • Engagement with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) in the process. Especially with relation to TOPS (Training Opportunities Programme) funding.
