The Colour of the Future

The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme Regional Awards 2008 were held at North Harbour Stadium to a packed room of excited, energetic, excellent students and their business counterparts.

Scooping the Enterprise North Shore Company of the Year, Cyan from Westlake Boys High School demonstrated their innovation and technological expertise with a pxt based business card which transfers from mobile phone to mobile phone - eliminating the need for printing cards OR remembering to carry them!

Westlake Boys also scooped four other awards including the Smales Farm Male Entrepreneur of the Year which went to outstanding student Alex Mackenzie of ASAP.  Alex' speech on the night caused laughter and deep thought as he probed both his learning experiences and his future outlook as he leaves school in just a few months.

The other school to take away a multitude of awards was Kingsway School.  Caley Staveley was awarded the Women's Health at Apollo Female Entrepreneur of the Year and a well deserving Wes Braddock was awarded the inaugral Enterprise North Shore Teacher of the Year.

Flags_1.jpgA young company from Pinehurst School, Flag That, presented their unique product to assist New Zealanders with their "creative trailer reversing techniques" - flags which attach to trailer corners so the driver can better identify the edge of the boat ramp in relation to the boat trailer!

Flying chocolate bars, laughter and a vibrant buzz dominated the evening which was enjoyed by more than 150 budding entrepreneurs, their mentors, parents, teachers, principals, sponsors and His Worship the Mayor Andrew Williams.
